233 is a card game where each player must form winning combinations to score the most points. The objective of each round is to be the first to form a winning combination with 8 cards.
Players accumulate points in each round.
The first player to exceed 233 points wins the game!
This game contains 140 cards:
4x8 yellow number cards (1-8)
4x8 blue number cards (1-8)
4x8 green number cards (1-8)
Number cards can form sequences (3 numbers of the same color that follow each other: 1,2,3 - 2,3,4 - 4,5,6 - etc.), triples (3 cards of the same number and the same color) or squares (4 cards of the same number and the same color).
4x5 symbol cards
Symbol cards can form doubles (2 identical symbols),
triples (3 identical symbols) or squares (4 identical symbols).
6 cards change of direction
The "reverse direction" cards reverse the direction of play when discarded. When there are only two players in the game, this card allows the player who discarded it to play again.
2 joker cards
The joker can replace any card in any winning combination.
10 gift cards : 5 cards + 5 points and 5 cards - 5 points
The player who plays a +5 points gift card immediately wins 5 points!
-5 points gift cards can be given to any other players to make them loose 5 points.
6 stop cards
When played, the Stop card force the player who was supposed to play next to skip his turn.
The aim of the game is to be the first to exceed 233 points!
Players must create winning combinations to complete each round, and score over 233 points to finish
the game. Each player receives 8 cards. Players take turns drawing one card and discarding one.
They progressively replace the 8 cards in their hand until they form a winning combination.
(Details below).
Set up
- Shuffle the 140 cards.
- Deal 8 cards one at a time to each player.
- Place the remaining cards face down in the center of the table to form the draw pile, reveal the last card.
- In each player's hand, all cards must remain face down.
The game can now begin!
Each round starts in a clockwise direction.
If a player has a winning combination from the start, they must wait for their turn to reveal it.
Round progression
The player who dealt starts the round by drawing a first card.
1. Players take turns drawing a card from the deck to add to their hand. They can only keep 8 cards in their hand. One card must be discarded each turn. The discarded card is placed face up next to the deck.
2. The last card in the discard pile can be taken by the other players: the first one to touch it can put it in their hand! In case of a dispute: the player with the lowest score wins the card.
Note: The last discarded card can only be picked up if it allows you to immediately form a triple, a sequence, a square, or to complete a 2-3-3, 2-3-4, 2-4-4, a super sequence, or a rainbow. Cards from the discard pile cannot be used to make doubles during the round; they can only be picked up to form a double at the end of the round, if the double allows you to complete a 2-3-3, 2-3-4, or 2-4-4.
The player who takes a card from the discard pile immediately places face up the three-of-a-kind, four-of-a-kind, or final combination that the card allows them to form. These played cards are locked until the end of the round. The player then discards a card from their hand; they must have 5 or 2 cards remaining in their hand.
If a player takes a card from the discard pile, the turn resumes from that player.
3. If no one takes the discarded card, the round continues normally (clockwise or counter-clockwise if there has been a change of direction).
Number cards, symbol cards, or cards that reverse direction can remain hidden in the players' hands.
-
The power of the "Change Direction" card is activated when a player discards the card.
The player who played before them can then play again!
-
The gift cards must be placed face up in front of the players. +5 points = 5 points for the player who place it in front of him, -5 points = less 5 points for the player who receives it.
-
If a stop card is played, the player who was supposed to play right after must skip his turn.
-
If a player forms a square of four identical cards, they must place it face up in front of them, then take another turn. They place their square down, then draw a new card and discard one.
Players take turns drawing and discarding cards until they get a winning combination!
(Winning combinations are detailed below.)
The first player to obtain a winning combination reveals their cards, announcing the combination achieved!
The round ends with the first winning combination, BUT all playser MUST DRAW ONE LAST CARD after the first winning combination is revealded. All players then reveal their hand.
The winning combinations

example
The rainbow
This exceptional combination must include all the colors in the game!
To end the round, the player must have the following in their hand:
-
1 card of each symbol: 4 cards: red, pink, purple, orange
-
1 card of each number color: any number, 3 cards: blue, green, yellow
-
1 special card: any special card, keeping in mind that the joker and the reverse card can be kept in the player's hand throughout the game, while the gift and the stop card must be drawn last to count towards the rainbow combination
example
New round
The winner of the round shuffles the cards and deals to start the next round.
The first player to exceed 233 points wins the game!
Points are tallied at the end of each round. The player who achieves a winning combination scores the points for that combination plus the points associated with any gifts, doubles, triples, runs, or four-of-a-kinds in their hand. The other players also add to their scores the points associated with any gifts, doubles, triples, runs, or four-of-a-kinds in their hands at the end of the round.
For super sequences, count 70 points (1 winning combination + 2 sequences).
How are the points counted?
The player who achieved the winning combination scores the score associated with the combination, added to the points associated with each gift(s), sequence(s), triple(s), double(s) or square(s) present in their game.
The other players score the points associated with each gift(s), sequence(s), triple(s), double(s) or square(s) present in their hand.
2-3-3
1 double symbol + 2 sequence(s) and/or triple(s)
25 points + 5 points + 10 points + 10 points = 50 points

25 points + 5 points + 10 points + 20 points = 60 points
2-4-4
1 double symbol + 2 squares
25 points + 5 points + 20 points + 20 points = 70 points
The super sequence
